Did you know that the Shire Administrative Office is a drop off point for batteries? This includes lithium batteries. They can be disposed of safely which reduces the fire risk to the Shire of Cranbrook landfill site and the Frankland River transfer station. At present, many batteries are discarded with 60 to 80 per cent of their charge remaining – an unseen but significant fire risk. Battery fires release a range of toxic fumes and the fire from a lithium battery can double in size every 30 to 60 seconds.
